Robots handling household chores or working in factories and workshops still seem like something out of a science fiction movie. However, the team at Apptronik, a robotics startup based in Austin, USA, believes that in the future, they will perform tasks that may be dangerous or simply boring for humans.

In a statement, the company explained their expectations for the humanoid robot: “We believe that Apollo is one of the most advanced tools humanity has ever created – the way we apply it will change the way we live and work.”

Apollo stands at 1.80 meters tall and weighs 72 kilograms; it has arms and legs, dexterous fingers, and a human-like countenance, complete with small black eyes for “friendly interactions” with coworkers. According to Apptronik, these human-like features will enable it to function in warehouses and factories in the “short term.” According to Jeff Cardenas, co-founder and CEO of the company, in the future, the android could also be useful in retail, home delivery, and even elderly care.

To communicate, Apollo uses a set of digital panels located on its face and chest, which also display its battery level (lasting four hours) and the task it is currently performing. Apollo also has facial expressions and intentional movements, such as turning its head to indicate where it is going.
