The indigenous people of the Himalayas are known as Sherpas, and they are truly astonishing. A video has gone viral, showing mountaineer Gesman Tamang rescuing a fellow climber who fell 60 meters into a crevasse at an altitude of 6,000 meters on the slopes of Everest.

Despite the perilous situation, as they dug through the snow to free the trapped Sherpa, Tamang and another companion, who is also a Sherpa, were laughing and making jokes.
Mountain glaciers are indeed rivers of ice, and they can move several meters per day. Crevasses form during this slow movement of the mountain, as the upper layer of ice is not as resilient and yields to pressure instead of resisting it.
“It’s a true miracle that this man survived a fall into a crevasse like that. Fortunately, our immediate response and teamwork made it possible to rescue him safely,” Tamang declared on his Instagram profile.
“I express my gratitude to everyone involved in this rescue, including the Sherpa himself, whose strength and resilience played a crucial role in his survival,” he added.
