According to Maddy Tolman, one of the passengers, the group of 29 people had been on the boat for only 45 minutes when they heard what sounded like an explosion. She recounted what happened to KSL.com.

“We heard a big bang! Not knowing what it was, we went to investigate. We found out that the houseboat’s engine had exploded and caught fire,” Tolman said. “It was about five to ten minutes between the explosion and when the boat was engulfed in flames.”

In the end, all 29 passengers were safely evacuated before the ship burned to the hull and sank. “Fortunately, no one was hospitalized. No one was injured,” Tolman said.
