A video on TikTok went viral by showing a McDonald’s hamburger that had been lost in the trunk of a car for years and was found apparently intact, though as hard as a rock.

The discovery and the video were made by an Australian mechanic who estimated that the hamburger had been there for 1 to 3 years, as the spare tire seemed to have never been used. In the video, he can be seen hitting the hamburger with a hammer, and instead of falling apart, the hamburger broke like ceramics.

The case has led to speculations about the preservatives used by McDonald’s, but the company attributes the preservation to the dry environment that prevents mold and bacteria growth. This is not the first case of McDonald’s hamburgers that seem not to deteriorate over time.
