Traveling with a small baby can be quite a challenge, but sometimes, for various reasons, mothers are compelled to take their little ones along and end up facing judgment for it. That’s what happened to Aliza Carr, who shared footage of herself soothing her baby during a plane trip and received harsh criticism for it.
The Australian mother vented on her Instagram about how motherhood can be tough; in the video, she is seen standing in the emergency exit area of the aircraft, gently rocking her 4-month-old daughter, Zadie. In the post, Carr explains that she used to think that pregnancy was the most challenging aspect of motherhood, but after her baby was born, she realized the amount of work involved, and the footage from that trip was an example of that.

Carr reveals that the video was taken during a 14-hour flight, and her daughter only managed to sleep after being rocked; after soothing the baby for a long time, she even had to take a painkiller to alleviate the back and leg pain.
Since social media seems to have experts on every topic, from medicine to ant farming, those knowledgeable about ‘airplane etiquette’ quickly pointed out the absurdity of the scene. Commenters argued that “dancing moms” like her are annoying and that if they were on the same flight, they would surely be upset with her method of calming the child.
Some people took it a step further; there were those who claimed that the mere sight of a mother soothing a baby can enrage passengers and that the best place for such actions is at the back of the plane. According to some comments, if you have a young child, it’s better to stay at home and keep a low profile.
Carr didn’t expect so much criticism, especially from other women who may also have young children like her. A few days later, she wrote another post expressing her disappointment that many mothers showed no empathy towards her and, worse, condemned her. “This amplifies the appalling notion that children should be seen and not heard. Their well-being doesn’t matter as long as the comfort of strangers is not compromised.”
